UI and UX

UX Design stands for User Experience Design, while UI Design refers to User Interface Design. Both UI and UX are extremely important to a product. They also work closely together. However, even though both UI and UX work closely together and are equally important they do two very different things. They have different processes and and the design discipline. UX Design is a more analytical and technical field vs UI Design which is closer to what we refer to as graphic design.

UI makes interfaces Beautiful! The UI designer’s role is to make everything pretty, pleasing to the eye, that’s my job. This basically means choosing a color scheme and typography that will be satisfy both criteria: Simple and attractive.  Of course the typography, color, an interactions has nothing to do with the designer’s preference. Seriously, rather it depends on clearly articulated reasons specific developed by the UX designers. UI designers make a visual hierarchy that serves a guide to users, which lets them know what to do and when to do it, in order to complete the user’s objective. A well-designed visual hierarchy will highlight one main objective per page which makes it clear to the user where they are on the site and what they can accomplish in any given moment.

UI designs is usually done second. Once the prototype has gone through several iterations and is largely finalized by the UX the UI designer flies in (Yes flies in, UI designers are angels. They touch things and make them beautiful) and begins to work on the visual design and micro-interactions. However, Ui doesn’t have to always be last. It depends on many factors. Factors, such as:

  • Who handles the UX and UI?
  • Is it the same person or a different person or team?

UX is the brains of the operation. Their research involves developing personas, doing competitive analysis,  and developing a minimum viable product. A minimum valuable product; a product that will be valuable to your targeted customer niche. This is validated through testing throughout the life-cycle of the product. It make everything function nice a neatly. It is the process of enhancing customer satisfaction by improving the usability and pleasure provided in the interaction between the customer and the product. They also do wire framing, prototyping, testing, and Develop the whole plan.

UX design is usually the fist step. Before UI design can gracefully make everything beautiful UX design research is the first when deciding whether to build a product or application.
